If Bali is in your autumn plans, the visa on arrival still costs Rp500,000 — about ₹2,700. A proposal announced on 12 August would raise that to Rp750,000 online and Rp1 million at the airport, but it carries no effective date and has not been implemented.

What was proposed, and by whom#
Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko put the plan to a briefing at the Directorate General's Jakarta headquarters on 12 August 2026. Two tiers were named: Rp750,000 for the e-VOA obtained online before departure, and Rp1 million for the visa issued on arrival at the counter. The stated reasons were rupiah exchange-rate movements, which have left the existing fee low in state-revenue terms, and a wish to shift the application step before departure so arrival halls move faster.
What has actually changed for a traveller today#
Nothing. The official e-VOA portal still processes the 30-day visa on arrival at the current fee, and no regulation setting the new figures has been published. A proposal announced at a briefing is not a rule: in Indonesia the fee is fixed by government regulation, and until that appears the counter charges what it charges now.
The useful part of the announcement is its shape. If the two-tier structure survives, applying online would cost a quarter less than paying at the airport — the first time Indonesia would price the queue rather than merely ask travellers to avoid it.
What to do if you are booking#
Book normally and apply for the e-VOA online before you fly; that is already the faster route and would become the cheaper one. Keep the receipt — the 30-day permit is extendable once inside Indonesia, and the extension is a separate payment. The document list, the extension mechanics and what gets Indians turned back at Ngurah Rai are in our Indonesia visa guide for Indians and what gets Indians deported from Bali. Trip planning is in the Bali 7-day itinerary.
We will add a layered update to this note the day a regulation with a date appears.

Frequently asked questions
- How much does Bali visa on arrival cost for Indians right now?
- Rp500,000 for a 30-day visa on arrival, extendable once for another 30 days. The higher figures reported in August 2026 are a proposal that has not taken effect; nothing has changed at the counter or on the official e-VOA portal as of 19 August 2026.
- What exactly did Indonesia propose?
- At a briefing in Jakarta on 12 August 2026, Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko proposed raising the fee to Rp750,000 for the e-VOA applied for online and Rp1 million for the visa issued at the airport counter, citing rupiah exchange-rate movements and a wish to move applications to before departure.
- Should I apply for e-VOA online or pay at the airport?
- Online, if the proposal goes through: the two-tier structure is designed to make the airport counter the expensive option. Even today the e-VOA saves queueing on arrival, and the price gap would add a financial reason on top of the time saved.
