A US visa appointment Mumbai booking runs through two addresses, not one. The US Consulate General Mumbai sits at C-49, G-Block, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Bandra East, Mumbai 400051. Its official consular district covers five states — Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Goa (in.usembassy.gov, checked 1 August 2026). The biometrics and interview-waiver centre (VAC) sits a short distance away, in the same BKC precinct but a different building. Neither address restricts where you may book: ustraveldocs lets any Indian resident schedule the appointment at any of the five posts, Mumbai included.

Which states Mumbai covers, and when that binds you#
The consular district Mumbai administers runs to five states under the US Mission's own description: Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Goa (in.usembassy.gov, checked 1 August 2026). Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata publish their own lists the same way. The full five-post picture is in the table below. New Delhi's own embassy page does not itemise a district in that language. By elimination, it covers what the other four do not list.
OFC and consulate in Mumbai: two addresses, two appointments#
A US visa appointment Mumbai booking touches two separate addresses, both inside BKC. The BKC consulate — C-49, G-Block, Bandra Kurla Complex, Bandra East, Mumbai 400051, phone 91-22-2672-4000 — holds the interview (in.usembassy.gov, checked 1 August 2026). The Visa Application Center — VAC Mumbai, or OFC Mumbai for a biometrics-only visit — handles the biometrics appointment Mumbai requires for interview-required applicants, alongside document drop-off for interview-waiver renewals. It sits at Trade Centre, Ground Floor, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai 400051, run by VFS Global per its own published centre directory (timesofvisa.com, reviewed 31 July 2026). That matches two separate applicants who each describe "the VAC is in BKC" (one applicant, r/visas, 14 November 2025; one applicant, r/usvisascheduling, 12 August 2025). They are different buildings inside the same complex, not two names for one building.

Six more cities run fee-based Document Drop-off Centres rather than full VACs — Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Cochin, Jalandhar and Pune — each charging ₹1,200 per application for the interview-waiver route — a contractor service fee, separate from the $185 MRV fee every applicant already pays the US Mission (one applicant, r/usvisascheduling, 12 August 2025). Two of the six, Ahmedabad and Pune, sit inside Mumbai's own consular district — Gujarat and Maharashtra respectively. An applicant living in either city can use the fee-based drop-off route without travelling to BKC at all, but still has to come to Mumbai for a full interview or a free VAC dropbox.
Appointment day at BKC: arrival time, what you may carry, what you may not#
Reported arrival windows run 45 to 55 minutes ahead of the time printed on the appointment letter, and the two Mumbai routes — consular interview and VAC dropbox — follow different rules once you are inside.
One applicant with a 9:10 a.m. consular interview reached the consulate at 8:15–8:20 a.m. and joined the queue outside (one applicant, r/visas, 13 February 2026). This site's own interview diary from the same post describes a security line "swallowing people from about 7:30" for an 8:15 slot and states plainly: "no phones, no smartwatches, no bags" (VisaGyan, 16 July 2026). First a passport check with tablet-based ID verification outside, then a deposit counter for electronic items — a mobile phone cost ₹100 cash to check in there, a private counter charge, not a government or VAC fee. Next a security screening that turns back applicants still carrying banned items. Last, before the interview windows, a waiting hall split by language preference: English, Hindi/Marathi or Gujarati. The VAC dropbox appointment runs a visibly different rulebook. One applicant who completed a Mumbai VAC interview-waiver renewal describes carrying a backpack inside — a contrast with the consulate's electronics ban above. The same account warns that the VAC itself has no parking of its own (one applicant, r/visas, 14 November 2025). The reported approach is Uber or Ola, or parking at Jio World Drive Mall roughly 15 minutes away and taking an auto or Uber the rest of the way. The same account flags an on-premise vendor for last-minute photos or printouts, charging around ₹500 per item — a real cost, but a private vendor's price, not a government or VAC fee.

Interview-waiver eligibility narrowed nationwide on 1 October 2025. Several work and student visa categories lost dropbox access that day; B1/B2 tourist and business renewals kept it (timesofvisa.com, reviewed 31 July 2026). Who exactly qualifies is a national question, covered in full on the page linked below rather than repeated here. One applicant caught in the same transition describes it directly: rules changed in September 2025, and ustraveldocs started emailing applicants to recheck their own eligibility mid-process (one applicant, r/usvisascheduling, 13 October 2025).
A Mumbai-specific, post-change case exists. A B1/B2 holder whose visa expired in August 2025 renewed through the Mumbai VAC's interview-waiver route in November 2025, after roughly fifteen days of the portal showing no slots at all. The applicant missed the first booked appointment, used the one permitted reschedule, and had the stamped passport ready for pickup within seven working days of the rescheduled visit (one applicant, r/visas, 14 November 2025). That is dated, post-level evidence the B1/B2 dropbox route was still running at this specific VAC after the October narrowing — not a guarantee it stays open, and not evidence about any other visa category.
