Australia is one of the more expensive visitor visas an Indian passport applies for, and the published figure is a floor rather than a price.

The official number#

The Department of Home Affairs lists the Visitor visa (subclass 600), tourist stream applied for from outside Australia, as: "Cost — From AUD250.00 (concessions apply in limited circumstances)", with a stay of "Up to 12 months".

Two words carry weight. From — the department directs applicants to its Visa Pricing Estimator because the charge varies with circumstances, and adds that "the estimator does not take into account the other costs." And up to — twelve months is the ceiling on what may be granted, not the default.

The charge is per applicant. A family of four is four fees, and the visa application charge is not refunded if the application is refused.

What lands on top#

  • Biometrics. Collected at a service centre in India, charged separately.
  • Health examination. Requested case by case, more likely for longer stays or certain histories; paid to the panel clinic, not to the department.
  • Translation and courier. Ordinary but non-zero.
  • Agent fees, if you use one. Optional — Australia's application is filed online by the applicant, and no agent is required.

Where Indian applications actually fail#

Not on the fee. The subclass 600 is a genuine-temporary-entrant assessment: the officer is deciding whether you intend to leave. Bank balances that appear the week before filing, an itinerary that does not match the funds, and a sponsor letter with no relationship evidence are the recurring problems. The document set and the way the assessment works are in Australia visitor visa 600 from India.

Two comparisons worth having before you commit: at AUD 250 the Australian visa costs several times what most Southeast Asian routes cost an Indian traveller (visa fees for Indians in 2026), and unlike the Schengen or UK routes there is no published legal maximum on the decision time.
