# Vietnam in 7 days from India: route, costs, direct flights

Seven days is the sweet spot for Vietnam from India. It is long enough to see the north and the centre properly, short enough to fit a week of leave, and it lands inside the 90 days your e-visa gives you anyway.

The first thing to correct: **there are direct flights.** Half the Indian guides still say you must connect through Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur. Vietnam Airlines flies Delhi and Mumbai to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, IndiGo has run Delhi–Hanoi daily since December 2025, and VietJet serves several Indian metros. Flying time is about five hours. If a booking site is routing you through Singapore, it is selling you a connection you do not need.

## The route

North to centre to south, one direction, no backtracking. Domestic flights inside Vietnam are cheap and short, and they are what makes a seven-day trip workable.

**Days 1–2, Hanoi.** Land in the morning if the schedule allows. The Old Quarter is walkable and disorienting in the good way. Hoan Kiem Lake, the Temple of Literature, and an evening spent on a plastic stool eating bun cha. Vegetarians: Hanoi is harder than Bali but easier than it looks — *com chay* means vegetarian rice, and the Old Quarter has several dedicated places.

**Day 3, Ha Long Bay.** Do it as an overnight cruise, not a day trip. The day trip is six hours of bus for four hours of boat. An overnight cruise on a mid-range boat runs roughly ₹6,000–₹12,000 per person including meals, and the bay at 6am without the day-tripper fleet is the reason you came.

**Days 4–5, Hoi An.** Fly Hanoi to Da Nang, drive 45 minutes. Hoi An's old town is a UNESCO site with an entrance ticket system, the tailoring is genuinely fast and genuinely good, and An Bang beach is fifteen minutes away. Da Nang's Golden Bridge is between the two if you want it.

**Days 6–7, Ho Chi Minh City.** Fly down. The War Remnants Museum and the Cu Chi tunnels are the two that stay with people. Ben Thanh market for the last-day shopping, and Tan Son Nhat has enough late-evening departures to India that day seven is a full day.

Book the international leg 60–75 days out. Fares from Kolkata run lowest — it is the closest Indian metro to Vietnam.

## When to go

November to April is the dry, cool window and it is not a small difference: central Vietnam floods in October and November, and Ha Long cruises get cancelled in bad weather with no refund on the flight you took to get there. Summer works if you skip the north.

## Things Indian travellers ask about

**Cash.** Vietnamese dong runs to large numbers — 1 lakh dong is roughly ₹340. Carry some USD for exchange; Indian rupees are not usefully exchangeable in Vietnam. Cards work in hotels and restaurants, not in markets.

**Alcohol and dress.** No restrictions of the kind you plan around in the Gulf. Temples want shoulders and knees covered.

**SIM.** Buy a local tourist SIM at the airport for a few hundred rupees. Roaming packs from Indian carriers cost several times that.
