# UK Visa Appointment Booking from India: How the VFS Slot Actually Gets Assigned

> Confirm a VFS location on gov.uk's own booking screen and it locks — no switching later. What that means when your nearest centre has no slots.

Most guides to a UK visa from India describe the paperwork. The part that actually blocks people is a single screen: gov.uk asks you to confirm a Visa Application Centre location, and the moment you do, that choice is locked. There is no reschedule-to-a-different-city option afterwards on gov.uk's own system — only on the date. This page covers that screen, what "no appointments available" actually means at that point, and where the online application ends and VFS Global's own system begins.

## Where the booking actually happens

The appointment is not a separate errand — it sits inside the same online application you already started at gov.uk. Gov.uk's own guidance states it plainly: "As part of your online application, you need to book an appointment at a visa application centre." You pay the government fee first, then move to the centre-selection step, hosted on a UK government domain (visas-immigration.service.gov.uk), not a VFS one.

That screen gives two choices, worded exactly as gov.uk publishes them: "I have identified the location I will submit my application and provide my biometrics" or "I want to choose a different location." Whichever you pick, the same line follows immediately after: "Once you have confirmed your location you will not be able to change it." Gov.uk itself names VFS Global as "our commercial partner" who actually runs the centres and their calendars — which is also why this page cannot hand you a live slot count. VFS Global's booking system sits behind its own domain, and it returns nothing to an outside check; every fee, calendar and add-on figure below that touches VFS directly is flagged as such rather than presented as gov.uk's own.

## If your nearest centre has no slots

This is the one decision point gov.uk actually gives you, and it exists for exactly this situation. Do not confirm a location you are not sure has capacity. Instead:

1. **Check gov.uk's own centre directory** — [Find a visa application centre](https://www.gov.uk/find-a-visa-application-centre) — for the next-nearest city before you commit to one.
2. **Use "I want to choose a different location"** at the confirmation screen rather than the default option, if your first choice looks doubtful.
3. **Confirm only once you are set on a city** — after that, gov.uk's own process has no built-in path back to this screen.

What gov.uk does not publish is a live count of how full any given centre's calendar is on a given day — that detail lives on VFS Global's own booking system, which returns a 403 to an independent check and cannot be verified directly for this page. Applicant reports describe being able to reschedule the *date* of an already-booked appointment more than once through a "Manage Appointment" option, and a missed appointment being reschedulable within a short window without a new application — both are treated here as unconfirmed, VFS-side mechanics, not gov.uk-published fact, since no primary source for either could be independently checked.

## Priority and Super Priority: what actually changes

Priority (+£500, roughly 5 working days) and Super Priority (+£1,000, next working day) are add-ons chosen when you pay the base visa fee — they do not get you a faster *appointment*, only a faster *decision* once you have attended one. Gov.uk is explicit that the clock on both starts at your biometric appointment, not at payment, so a Priority purchase is only as fast as the appointment slot you can actually get through the process above. The fuller cost table and refund conditions for both services are covered on [UK visit visa for Indians](/uk-visit-visa-for-indians); the one detail worth adding here concerns cancelling before the appointment happens at all. Gov.uk's refund guidance sets an automatic refund only when you have **not yet given biometrics** and you either applied from inside the UK **or paid the add-on fee at the same time as the visa fee** — which, for an application from India, is the normal sequence, since Priority or Super Priority is selected at the same payment step as the £135 base fee. Cancel before your appointment and that condition is already met by default; miss the window because the Home Office needed more information from you instead, and no refund follows, automatic or requested.

## The portal you don't need: UKVCAS

A search for "UK visa appointment" also surfaces UKVCAS (now run by TLScontact, not VFS, since 15 October 2024) — but that service is for people already inside the UK extending or switching a visa, not for a fresh application filed from India. If you are applying from India, VFS Global's network is the one that matters; UKVCAS/TLScontact appointments are a different queue entirely, and confirming a UKVCAS booking by mistake will not move your Indian application forward.

## How this differs from booking a Schengen appointment

A [Schengen visa appointment from India](/schengen-visa-appointment-india) is decided by a legal jurisdiction rule — which consulate has authority over your file depends on where you legally reside, and that can put two applicants from the same city on calendars weeks apart depending on which Schengen state they are applying to. The UK has no equivalent split: one authority, the Home Office, decides every case regardless of which of India's VFS centres collects your biometrics, so the only real "jurisdiction" decision you make is the practical one above — which city has a working calendar right now.

*VisaGyan is not affiliated with VFS Global, UK Visas and Immigration or the Home Office; we book nothing and arrange nothing. Every figure on this page traces to a gov.uk page named above, checked 25 August 2026; anything that could only be confirmed through VFS Global's own site — which returns a 403 to an independent check — is marked as unverified rather than stated as fact.*
